Oak and Poplar Boards
Middle Tennessee Lumber produces oak and poplar S4S boards with quality Appalachian lumber from the middle Tennessee area.
The oak has rich, tight grain that is demanded in your market. The consistent even color makes it easier to match staves in panels for demanding consumers. Poplar products are generally white to light green in color. As a result of our poplars color, many customers stain it to resemble other woods such as cherry or maple.
-
Each board is selected to be clear on one face and one edge.
-
Edges of each board are moulded, not rip sawn.
-
Tallies are accurate and easy to read.
-
Packs are wrapped in plastic and cardboard for protection.

Benefits
-
Oak and Poplar boards are demanded in the higher end residential homes for several reasons.
-
Poplar paints better than any hardwood. People want the "gloss enamel" on their trim. Poplar works for them - and they still boast "we have hardwood trim" when the house is marketed.
The raised grain that occurs with pine is not a problem.
-
Poplar can be stained to look like many other types of more expensive hardwoods.
-
Oak is a light colored, rich looking wood that can be coated with a clear polyurethane for a natural look. Oak takes stain nicely too.
-
Poplar and Oak are priced competitively. Poplar usually less than clear Ponderosa pine.
-
Lumber yards are getting calls for hardwood boards. If they have it, they will sell it - Usually at better margins than the other lumber products.
